Good News vs the Harsh Truth

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to take up the majority of our news content it begs the question of if we are seeing too much negativity in our news.

With so much negativity being spread in the news it has left very little room for positive news to be given to us on a day to day basis.

A New York Times article highlighted what people are doing to calm the nervousness that the corona virus coverage is imposing.

It is said that several social media accounts dedicated to good news are seeing their follower counts rise in bunches. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/14/style/good-news-coronavirus.html

I believe that more news organizations should try to strike a better balance of good and bad news.

Maybe this takes on a whole segment of the news dedicated to just good news that is going on in the world.

Edublogs.com had a discussion about balancing the good and bad news and the main reason we only see bad news is because that is how the companies make money. https://cceb.edublogs.org/2017/01/18/do-you-think-the-news-should-be-a-balance-of-both-good-and-bad-news/

I believe that the main reason so many organizations are continuing to produce the bad news and make money off of it is because that is what people are going to look at.

As for the news organizations, it is a business. Of course they are going to produce whatever makes them money.

However I believe that the real issue is that people are only seeking out the bad news.

Maybe the world would not be perceived as such a bad place if we all choose to look for the good rather than just seeking out the bad.
