Is TikTok the New Age of News?

I would not say that TikTok is any more or less valuable as a news source than the traditional social media sources. The characteristic that sets TikTok apart from the others is the younger audience that they are reaching for as well as the way that they are delivering their content. “On Snap, we talk to viewers, not down to them, and on TikTok it’s even more so,” said Executive Producer of Stay Tuned Angie Grande. Rather than talking straight to the younger audience TikTok is able to be used to talk with and engage with the audience, this can create a new, more fun way for people, especially younger people, to get their news. A way that TikTok has made its way into the sports industry is by creating different campaigns such as the #WeReady campaign for the NFL season. This allows TikTok users to display their own team pride by making a video of themselves and then tagging it with the hashtag. This is just another way that companies can gain attention for their business by allowing the younger generations to make the content for them. TikTok has grown exponentially since its start back in 2016 and is becoming a mainstream service just like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc. Do to the different audience and different platforms more and more businesses are going to start using TikTok to get their news out. What sets TikTok apart from the rest is the light-hearted, fun manner in which younger people are going to be able to create their own content to get news out.
