Promoting News: Good or Bad?

There are both positives and negatives for news organizations to advertise their reporting. Promoting news reporting is not different than the NFL promoting one of their games or Apple trying to promote a new iPhone. When something is created and shown to the public it is going to gain their attention and at least get them thinking about what they saw. For news organizations to promote their reporting would be pro for them because like the 1619 Project commercial having it be out there for the world to see it will get people to at least think about what they just saw and possibly look at what the New York Times has to offer with it. However I big con would be from the viewer’s perspective. Watching that promotion makes me feel like I should not have to be promoted to watch the news and believe that what is being put out is truthful and correct. It does not seem necessary to have to promote news because news is something that promotes itself. As for using celebrities it will obviously help promote because we put them on a pedestal and our thinking is “if it is good enough for them it is good enough for me.” Using celebrities to promote things is a great idea but when it comes to promoting journalism I believe promotions should be kept out because as journalists only newsworthy things should be put out anyways and that news should promote itself.
