With everything going digital now it can be very tough for journalists and news organizations to still make a profit on the news that they are sending out.
News can be found almost anywhere now and so much of it is free to view online.
The main way that Columbia Journalism Review highlights how news organizations are still getting their money is by memberships.

The organizations are making their money by getting people to subscribe to their websites and people without a subscription can not access the full amount of news on the site.
This can work as long as there is a large number of subscribers. The struggle however is that similar news can be found elsewhere and since every organization has not adopted the pay-to-view approach it can lead to people just going elsewhere for their news.
News organizations are being forced to explore other ways to get their information across and make money doing it.
Editor and Publisher highlighted the awareness that the traditional business model is dead.
While I believe that news should promote itself and should not have to be thrown down everyone’s throat it is obvious that without a little promotion no money will ever be made.
The best way for organizations to make money would be to get a larger social media presence.
This would allow so many people to see their stuff while also getting the chance to interact with it.
This way it also takes away the battle of every news organization begging for people to visit them through commercials or giving away/selling merchandise to people that couldn’t care less.
Times have changed and it is time for news organizations to adapt with the change and get on social media.
If for no other reason, all the kids are doing it. Right?
